My knowledge about my topic had become broaden and it made my research ideas clear. But I still need to do more research as I still have the "whats and how" running through my head. The only thing that made me disappointed of compiling my sources are the other sources that I cannot open because it was not free. Most of it are very reliable to my topic, and some can make my research ideas clearer. Regardless of that matter, I still looked for another free journal articles and I'm felicitous to find other articles that I can connect to my research topic.
The time given for me to compile my sources was not enough due to an unexpected circumstance. I got sick last week and the doctor told me to rest until I feel better (this is the reason why I was absent last Tuesday). I tried to start doing the assignment but my fever gets back whenever I get stressed out. So the only time I can start compiling sources is the time I get better. Sadly, the day I felt better was Saturday. Thus, I only had three days to complete my note cards. I finished compiling it last night, Monday (technically Tuesday early morning).
Of all the journal articles I found, articles related to dance movement therapy have the large amount of studies. On the other hand, the least that I found were the articles related to stress in collegiate level. Hence, this is what I need to search for and add it to my journal compilation in order for my sources to be complete somehow. Most of my journal articles come from academic databases, and only few I found in the library. Hopefully, when I have the time to go to the library, I can get more journal articles that can help me mold my research topic.

How did I come up with my Thesis topic?
IMPROVISATIONAL CONTEMPORARY PARTNER WORK AS EXERCISE FOR STRESS AND ANXIETY REDUCTION FOR NONDANCER COLLEGIATE STUDENTS
Since the age of 3, I've experienced many things in dancing even the stress and injuries that most dancers get. I sometimes feel the urge to give up my dancing career because of the lack of motivation and the love for dance. Having said this, I got curious why this is happening to me? What triggered me to lose my love for dance? I even asked my other teammates if they feel the same way and found out that there are times that they feel it too.
The time I took my Sports Psychology Class in College (SS 161), I learned that there are a lot of factors that can lose one's motivation in a specific sport. One of it is overstress. How can we cope up with it? Usually you will be asked to rest and change your training schedule if possible. In my case in college, we have a 4-year varsity contract. We can not rest whenever we want to. We should always be active and take consideration that we are representing the name of our school. At the same time as students, we have to maintain our grades and make sure that we will be able to pass our subjects. With this, I questioned myself on how can we be able to gain our motivation back and at the same time reduce the stress that we get from all the school works and the hectic training schedule that we have. Thus, this led me to the research on how we could handle stress at the same time being able to manage my time with all the responsibilities I have as a student and dancer.
While looking for my final topic in my research method class (SS 199), I found out that there's this Dance Movement Therapy, where they used dance to treat mental illness including stress and anxiety. This made me realize that there are some dances that can help us feel the love we had before with dancing. Having Zumba as our training, being able to learn new dance moves, and experiencing a new genre of dance like the contemporary. This brought me to the idea that there are still other dancing experiences that can help reduce my stress and anxiety level and at the same time be able to enjoy the talent I have. I chose contemporary dance as my research topic because personally being able to dance this genre made me feel light and free while learning the different techniques of this dance. As for my teammates, I can feel that they're able to express the feelings that they have while they dance. It helps us feel stress free and at the same time have the enough energy that we will be needing as varsity student.
With my thesis, I would like to know if this would be effective to non dancers as well.
Who am I?
People misjudge me as half Chinese. The truth is I'm half Japanese. Maybe it's because there are a lot of Chinese in our country ever since or maybe they don't know the difference between the looks of the Chinese and the Japanese. Other people thought I'm just a pure Filipino with yellow skin and look like Chinese because of my last name "Reyes" and my middle name is also a Filipino name, "Sumalacay". To be clear, I'm using my Mother's maiden name. Why? It's a long story, but I'm about to use my Father's last name soon. You'll know everything when you read through this.
So here it is. My LONG introduction about myself:
Hi I'm Eri Sumalacay Reyes. I'm 20 years old and a senior standing at the University of the Philippines Diliman. I'm taking up Bachelor of Sports Science, and I just have one more semester to finish my course (hopefully). Like what I've said above, I am a FilJap. My father is the pure-blood Japanese (Fumio Yamada); while my mom is the pure-blood Filipino (Ma. Rosanna Reyes). The reason I'm using my mother's maiden name is because they got married seven years after I got here in this world. Thus, I'm a legitimated individual. Soon enough, I'll be using the name Eri Yamada, and my nationality will change into Filipino-Japanese (Dual Citizen).
Hobbies and Sports:
My first hobby is to play piano. I started playing piano at the age of 3 and music is my thing. My teacher and other piano teachers told my mom that I could be a prodigy in piano because I'm a fast learner. I did perform some piano pieces that most beginners can't play it yet. I took voice lesson too and can also sing well like my mom (she's a singer, by the way). Me and my parents thought musician will be my future occupation, but then they saw more of my abilities.
(Can't find any pics of me playing piano in my hardive :( ) |
At the age of 8, I've become a skater. At first I don't like to skate, but because of the assistant coach who assists me, it pushed me to be one. That was the time me and my dad skate. She told my parents that I was a fast learner, and she could see through me that I have potential in skating. "Who knows your daughter could be an Olympic skater?" she said. Surprisingly, the assistant coach was partly correct. I go a bunch of gold medals from different competitions and even got crowned as the Ice Princess 2005. But that was it and never become an Olympic skater. I stopped at the age of 13 because the place, where I used to train, got bulldozed, and it was moved to Mall of Asia (very far I know).
Then at the age of 16, I asked my mom to enroll me in artistic gymnastics because I want to learn to do the tumblings. She enrolled me, but the coach told me that I was way better to enroll in Rhythmic Gymnastics (RG) than in artistic because of my outstanding flexibility level. So then I moved to RG. My coach lets me joined the NCR to Palarong Pambansa. Amazingly, I got a bronze medal but never went to Palarong Pambansa

I give up almost everything that I enrolled when I went to college (sad) except for one, dancing. I continued to become a dancer in UP Filipiniana Dance Group. It was not a ballet school anymore. It is a folk and jazz group. Until now I'm still part of the group and realized that maybe dancing is my real thing. At this point, my parents still think that I can build my art school soon but I told them that I wanted to become a doctor or scientist. I'm curious about how our mind and body works and can able to do these things; wondering what our mind and body's limitation.

Likes and Dislikes:
When it comes to food, I like Japanese food over Filipino food. I got my dad's taste of food lol. I also like French and Italian Food.
I like to compose music (not lyrical). I'm also a very techie person. I love to edit photos, videos, and music. I'm also a gamer like my father, but he's more of card games; I'm more of computer games.
Movies? yes. I love science fiction or non-fiction movies. I also love watching anime movies
Adventure is my most favorite one. I love to discover new things around me. If I'm just a millionaire and have much time, I'll go around the world and see our beautiful nature (Nature is LOVE).
When it comes to dislikes, first is I'm not fond of reading books. I easily get asleep whenever I read except science and educational books.
Second is crabs, animal blood and other exotic food because I'm allergic to them :(.
Third, locked up in the house and school and never can go adventure.
Fourth, overstress. Sickness can get through me faster both physically and emotionally.
Last, Pain. Too much pain for me can lead me grievously ill.
So I guess that's enough to tell about me :D
